Paralympics is also known as Games of Paralympaid. It is a series of periodic game held following the olympic summer and winter for athletes with disabilities.
The word Paralympic derives from a greek word 'para' meaning parallel or alongside and the word olympic. It means a game organised parallel to olympic, It indicates how two movements exist side by side.

India enjoys best ever Paralympics in year 2021 with total of 19 medals. The enjoyment not only lies in medals, but the players' and their instructors' hard-work.

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Game was started with Bhavina Patel's table tennis silver medal for India a week ago finished with a gold and silver in badminton By Krishna Nagar and Suhas Yathiraj on 5th September 2021 raising India's count to a total of 19 medals- 5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze. 
India has finished with being in top 25 nations in medal tally. This year' performance is very special considering that India won only 4 medals at Rio Pralympics 2016 and had won only 12 medals overall since India entered in Tel Aviv Paralympics 1968. 


India won total 3 medals in shooting, 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
  • Avani Lekhara won a gold in 10m air rifle standing and a bronze in 50m air rifle standing.
  • Manish Narwal, para pistol shooter, ranks fourth in the world in Men's 10m Air Pistol SH1 according to the World Shooting Para Sport Rankings.
  • Singhraj Adhana is an Indian paralympian and shooter. He won a bronze medal in the Men's P1 10 metre air pistol SH1 and a silver medal in the Mixed 50m pistol SH1.


India won 2 gold, 1 bronze and 1 silver in badminton.
  • Pramod Bhagat  won a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. He is currently ranked as number 1 para-badminton men's single SL3.
  • Krishna Nagar won a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics and is ranked as number 2 para-badminton men's single SH6.
  • Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj is ranked number 2 in men's singles and silver Medalist in SL4 category in Tokyo Paralympics 2021.
  • Manoj Sarkar is ranked as World no.1 Para-badminton player in the SL-3 Classificationand won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Paralympic 2020. 


India won 1 gold, 5 silvers and 2 bronze in athletics at 2020 Summer Paralympics.
  • Sumit Antil broke his own record three times in Paralympic 2020 finals with 68.55 metres and won a gold medal.
  • Nishad Kumar, Indian high jumper won silver medal in the men's high jump T47 category with a new Asian record of 2.06m.
  • Yogesh Kathuniya, a discus thrower won silver medal in men's discus throw F56 event.
  • Devendra Jhajharia, javelin thrower. He is the first Indian Paralympic player to win 2 golds. He won first gold in the javelin throw at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, second gold at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. And now he won a silver medal at Paralympics 2020.
  • Mariyappan Thangavelu is a high jumper ad won a silver medal in the men's high jump T-63 category.
  • Praveen Kumar won silver medal in the event of atheletics (Men's high jump T64) at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.
  • Sundar Singh Gujar is a  javelin thrower, shot putter and discus thrower competing in F46 events.  He won bronze medal at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in men's javelin F46 event.
  • Sharad Kumar is an Indian para high jumper and world former number 1. He won bronze medal this time in Men's high jump T63.

Harvinder Singh is an Indian para athlete (archer). He won bronze medal in the men's singles recurve archery at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. It is the first ever Olympic medal in archery for India.
