A Walk Down the Memory Lane

India is all set to host its 75th Independence Day on 15th August, 2021. It is a matter of great pride and euphoria that 2021 is the year of great changes for India. From the Prime Minister chairing a UNSC debate (a first for any Indian PM) to the unbeatable courage of Indian athletes at the Tokyo Olympics, 2020, India definitely has come a long way. India is a truly mesmerising example of the fact that true dedication in your heart cannot be deterred by even something as ghastly as the COVID-19 pandemic. Let's take a look at India's biggest achievements since Independence as we gear up our celebrations of the Independence Day.

Independence Day - A Look in the Great Album of Achievements

1. India is the sixth largest economy in the world.

Currently, India is the sixth largest economy as far as nominal GDP is concerned. It's been assumed that India would take over Japan to be the third largest economy in the world. Isn't that amazing?

2. Blissful Performance at the Olympics.

From hockey to wrestling to shooting to finally, track-and-field, India has produced athletes who perform the best in the international podium. India holds a total of 12 medals, out of which 8 are gold in the field of hockey in the Olympics. Shooting has honoured our country with 4 medals, and wrestling, 7. India also has 3 medals in boxing, 3 in badminton, 2 in weightlifting and 1 in tennis and track-and-field each. The people of India will forever be indebted to the hockey team, Abhinav Bindra and Neeraj Chopra for scripting history and inspiring a new generation of youth.

3. World's Smallest Satellite

Not only is this country of 1.3 billion people seeing a silver lining in the field of sports, but in the field of science as well! An 18-year-old teen, named Rifath Sharook, designed the lightest and the smallest satellite which was named after the late President APJ Abdul Kalam as KalamSat. It was made by the use of carbon film polymer and was launched by NASA in 2017.

4. The Largest Postal Network in the World

The 166 year old India Post is the most widely distributed postal system in the world. Started by Warren Hastings as the 'Company Mail', it now has a budget of ₹11,496.18 crore!

Various other achievements include India becoming a greater technological hub by the day, the development of India's first supercomputer PARAM and the first Asian nation to reach Mars orbit.

So, did you like the journey of India's achievements? India has seen a glorious past and is working hard for an even more promising future. We should feel proud to be the citizens of India! We should do every bit to protect our motherland. The day is not far away when India's books will be beaming with a billion smiling faces.
