Dr. Shankar Chatterjee

Dr. Shankar Chatterjee retired on superannuation as Professor & Head (CPME) from National Institute of Rural Development &Panchyati Raj (NIRD &PR) (Government of India), Hyderabad. As on 15 July 2019, he has published, 30 Books & in 1 Government of India’s Report worked as Expert. In addition, 40 Chapters published in edited books; altogether 275 Research papers including articles published in International, National Journals and in newspapers mainly on Rural Development/Poverty. He has published more than 153 letters and write-ups in Newspapers/Newsletters including Economic and Political Weekly (EPW). He has completed 43 Research Reports (some were sponsored by International Organizations like   World Food Program etc.), also contributed 52 Research papers in International and National Seminar/Conference etc. In addition to all these, numerous comments, he has uploaded in different newspapers based on news items inter alia which are Speaking Tree of Times of India Group,
Economic Times, Times of India, The Hindu etc.,

He has traveled all the parts of India for research studies and for other academic works. He has visited Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Eritrea, Italy, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Peru, Namibia etc. as resource person. And for personal initiative, he visited many countries such as Austria, Germany, England, China, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Vatican City, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Yemen, Qatar, etc.  While working in Eritrea, a Department has issued him Certificate by mentioning ‘You are asset to our country’. The High Commissioner and the Deputy High Commissioner of India have appreciated his works as he had published many articles on Eritrea. 
As co-curricular activities he was involved with games and sports, cooking etc. He was awarded best recipe prize for writing on fish curry by the Deccan Chronicle newspaper, Hyderabad. He represented Assam State Hockey Team in All India Junior National Hockey and acted in a Telugu cinema.
